When a loving couple wish to announce their commitment to each other, the first step is often the engagement.
This stage in the relationship is customarily brought about by the man going down on one knee, if possible, and presenting his loved one with an engagement ring. If his partner accepts the proposal, and likes the ring, the couple are then engaged to be married.
There is a great variation of engagement rings available, and these can be readily purchased online or from most High Street jewellers.
Engagement rings traditionally consist of a stone set on a gold band. This stone is usually a diamond, although cubic zirconium is a less expensive option.
The stones set on the ring usually consist of either just one large stone, known as a solitaire, or an arrangement of several stones, known as a cluster.
Quite often the one solitaire diamond is far more expensive than a cluster of smaller stones. The solitaire can be found in various shapes and tones of colour, the most unusual tones being the most sought after and expensive.
