Personalized Family Ornament

Our popular arts and crafts program continues to expand this year with ornaments making in the Fall educational opportunities programs. A renowned designer of Christmas ornaments, will be giving a seminar on glass blowing techniques, as well as proper design guidelines for personalized ornaments.

The seminar will consist of three segments roughly outlined as: design, manufacturing, and finishing. For the design section, you will learn how to sketch and do color separations for a personalized family ornament depicting the members of your family. Next, the seminar will cover the various materials available to you, including: resin, blown glass, and polymer clay. In this section of the seminar, you will learn the art of blowing glass ornaments, and finally create your own mold of your family ornament. After successful blowing, the final section of the seminar will cover finishing techniques.

The sections of finishing will include: base paint coats and application processes; glaze mixing; brushes and stroke techniques; and finally sealants and varnish applications. At the end of the final section, your personalized family ornament will be complete.

You can also sign up for the Extra Production optional class through the local community group. In this class, you will learn mass production techniques, and how they differ from single ornament manufacture. You will have the option of making up to 500 copies of the family ornament for distribution and/or sale.

Return in the Spring for an additional community learning class tentatively titled, "Ornament Art Made Simple" wherein you can create a personalized family ornament in resin. The processes are quite different, and each offers specific advantages. Sign up early as classes sell out quickly.
